Joshua JacquesI don’t intend to bore you with my autobiography so I’ll do my best to focus on the important factors. I was born and raised in the coastal town of Santa Cruz, California. I’ve lived in this county my entire life with the exception of about a year or so spent in Turlock when I started grammar school. Grammar school and junior high were fun and mostly uneventful, high school was an exciting, constantly changing (and challenging) environment, and junior college was just an extension of high school. California State University Monterey Bay on the flipside, has been a wonderful experience for me, with the most obvious difference being a motivated faculty and strict learning guidelines. For more on my education, click here.

I’ve held a job consistently since I was 12 years old, where I delivered newspapers daily for eight-and-half years. I was awarded carrier of the month and praised numerous times for my accuracy and dependability. I worked at a local bank (Commercial Pacific Bank) during the late S&L years doing loan servicing. Then I was hired as a seasonal employee at Toys “R” Us where I was kept on the team after the holidays and eventually full-time. I learned a great deal about retail, especially that it paid poverty level wages! Besides that, it was a great experience for me dealing with crazy customers, planning employee shift goals, training new employees and performing other low-level management functions. This is also the place where Lorena and I fell in love! She was hired as a seasonal employee a year after I was. I trained her, we hit it off, and the rest is history!

After the excitement of retail toys, I decided to get out of retail and make some real money in construction. And I did. Made a livable wage and gained some excellent experience in construction; supervising multiple employees. This led to an overly exhausted lifestyle (construction is very physical!) and I made a 180 to the technical field of computers and information technology. My true passion, stemmed from the gift of my first PC from my Grandmother, I’ve built myself into an electronics geek. I used to break my computer on purpose so I could learn to fix it! Surprisingly, that worked for me. I spent years as the family/friends computer whiz: repairing, maintaining, upgrading, and everything else computers. It soon became evident that I “clicked” with computer organization and design. I began web mastering, programming, digital design, and submerging myself in the dynamic and openness of the tech industry.

Now, I work with Team Sedenquist, a husband-wife team of REALTORS® in Santa Cruz County. I am their graphic artist and marketing specialist, responsible for all Internet, print, direct mailing, and property advertising/marketing. I absolutely love it! I’ve created their first website, property flyers, business card, direct mail postcards, print advertisements and so forth. It has been a remarkable experience and I find myself becoming more and more interested in the real estate industry…

A little more about me. Having a checkbook and paying bills since I was 13 (yes, a teenager with a checkbook!) has made me financially competent. I’m not an accounting expert, but understand the flow of money and cost/benefit analysis. I enjoy making money, be it harvesting my mother’s beautiful rose garden and selling long stems along the frontage road when I was 11, to working as an independent contractor with real estate agents and other people with design needs now. I’m very analytical and mathematics seems to be the map of my mind. I’m detailed oriented, especially when it comes to design and consistency. I believe someone should try and get it right the first time or not do it all. I’m not very outspoken, but still able to lead and take charge. I do my best to live positive and follow the Golden Rule.

Finally, I’m a responsible family man. I take care of my family by doing what I feel is best for our future. We embrace love and happiness, while considering practicality and realism. We cherish the special times spent together at home and on vacation, while understanding the importance of wise financial savings to create such memories. We continually work to improve our relationships by sharing our mistakes and ideas for mending them. Life is a beautiful and complicated process which we have come to cherish.
